eMRX™

Universata’s electronic medical record exchange “closes the loop” for transporting medical record information. By standardizing REQUEST, PROCESSING, and DELIVERY of medical record information, Universata is able to create a near real-time exchange where medical record information is secure, HIPAA compliant, and matched to the recipient’s business needs via an “Affinity Portal.” For customers with an electronic medical record (EMR), the eMRX™ extends EMR-like functionality to those groups lacking EMR access: physicians, patients, and the surrounding non-healthcare business community. The eMRX™ was launched 4Q 2004.

The Physician Referral Network Exchange (PRNX)

The purpose of the PRNX is to account for and explicitly move medical record information among the 3 audiences noted above. These movements of medical record information most often stem from our customers’ policies, which make it difficult to create a functioning PRNX. These policies are most often:

  • Patient admissions information at one facility location is not accessible in the surrounding caregiver community.

  • Patient admissions information is usually prevented from being disclosed by discharge policies and other procedures that delay the readiness of the medical record contact for disclosure.

  • While not a policy, there is a perception that hospitals should have this data at their fingertips, when in fact this information usually resides in a data system not easily shareable among the PRNX community.
